  • Skype has undergone drastic changes in recent times, as Microsoft ditched Classic Skype 7.0 and moved to Skype 8.0. They postponed the date, but Skype Classic is now finally gone and replaced with the fresh Skype 8.0. Users have had a lot of questions and the common one concerns adding contacts in the new version of Skype.

We made sure to explain how to do it below, so if you’re bamboozled with the lack of the option to add contacts, make sure to check it out.

Unable to add contacts on Skype? Here’s the explanation

Let’s start by saying that on the recent releases of Skype (both Desktop and UWP versions) you don’t need to add contacts or friends in order to chat, or make video or VoIP calls. Just look them up in the Search bar and send them a message. They’ll get the message request, and should they choose to accept, you’ll see them in your Contacts list in the left pane. That’s it.

Later on, you can add their landline numbers for calls or change the details of each individual contact. Now, like many other things, this confused a lot of users who get used to the old system from the soon-to-be-discontinued classic Skype. Our guess is that they’ll need some time to adjust to these enforced novelties from Microsoft.

Classic Skype is no more, and Skype 8 with the metro design and the instant-messenger-like interface is what we’re stuck with now. Microsoft decided to fix what’s not broken, but that’s the software development thing sometimes — changing things just for the sake of changing. In spite of the enormous public backlash.

So, just search for your friend and send him/her a message. As simple as that. What are your thoughts on Skype 8? Feel free to tell us in the comments section below.
