Microsoft's Surface Ergonomic Keyboard could be in the works
The Surface Brand led the way on table top computers before Microsoft moved on to Surface and Surface Pro hybrids that are so popular these days. However, Surface devices may soon go back to their roots because Microsoft is designing a Surface keyboard enabled through Bluetooth.
A listing from the Bluetooth SIG shows that Microsoft is working on a Surface Ergonomic Keyboard. Although the details for the upcoming keyboard are scarce, people are expecting to find out more about it at the event that will be taking place in October. For now, all we know about this device is its the name.
Traditionally, Surface devices connect to the keyboard using the connectors they have at the base. However, it seems that Microsoft might bring back one of the old pre-existing ergonomic keyboards for the Surface devices. There is also another possibility, that the upcoming keyboard might be in fact related to another rumored Microsoft project, namely the Surface AIO, a PC designed for the living room. In this case, a type cover wouldn’t find its place for this PC, and the company might want to bring some of the keyboard experience they have to the desktop.
Another possibility might be that the new project is a mobile keyboard for the Surface Phone, in some way. Actually, Microsoft is not that of a stranger to mobile keyboards, since they have previously made Bluetooth keyboards compatible with Windows phones, for instance. For this reason, the idea of a Surface Keyboard targeting the Surface Phone is plausible, especially if you think about the fact that the device is dedicated to Enterprise customers.
However, this might be useful for regular customers too, since it would be a step forward in replacing the desktop facilities with mobile, on the go devices.
