If your Windows 10, 8.1 Surface Pro 2 tablet (or laptop?) isn’t synchronizing to the correct time, then you need to read below for a working fix for yet another annoyance in Windows 10, 8.1.
The Surface Pro 2 is an amazing piece of technology, but just like anything else that has Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 inside, it is bound to have a lot of bugs and issues. One of the latest such problems relates to the fact that time is not updating on the Windows 10, 8.1 Surface Pro 2, according to some users.
I have a surface Pro2 that isn’t synchronising to the correct time. The settings on my SP2 are: TimeZone: (UTC + 10:00). Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney. Server: time.windows.com. I’ve tried to synch to another sntp server such as au.pool.ntp.org, but that didn’t correct the issue. If this was a PC, I would check the date in the BIOS, but how would that be done in a tablet? (Is there an equivalent firmware option for the Surface Tablets?). I can manually reset the time, but I would rather find out why this issue is happening. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
This is what the frustrated Australian Microsoft user is saying. And according to a Microsoft Support Engineer, here’s what needs to be done to solve the time problems on your Surface Pro 2 and, why not, on other Windows 10, 8.1 devices. The problem seems to be caused by the Windows Time Service which need to be set to Automatic.
FIX: The Surface Pro 2 clock is wrong
1. Set Windows Time Service to Automatic
2. Change Internet Time server settings
If your Internet Time Server settings are not correct, this may explain why your Surface Pro 2 clock is not updating.
3. Check your Surface Pro 2 battery
If your computer battery is no longer working properly, you may encounter time and date issues. You can check if your battery is working by entering BIOS and checking the clock from there.
If the clock in BIOS is correct, this indicates that your battery is working properly. If the clock is not showing the correct time, you need to replace your computer battery.
If this has solved your problems, let us know by leaving your comment. If not, here are some additional troubleshooting guides that you can use to fix time and clock issues on the Surface Pro 2:
