The Vizio remote is important for the use of your Vizio smart TV, since you use it to navigate through the menu and various applications.
If the Vizio remote stops working, it can be due to low batteries, a blocked TV sensor, power residue of remote and TV, dirty power source, stuck memory of the remote, or issues with the TV itself.
In this article, we will offer a few tips on how to fix the remote, provided that the functionality is not affected by a flawed IR sensor.
How do I fix my VizioTV remote?
1. Change batteries
This is the quickest solution to make sure the remote is working is changing the batteries with fresh ones. Most Vizio remotes will take either two AA batters or two AAA batteries.
If the new batteries don’t solve, the problem, move on to the next solution.

2. Power Cycle The Remote
Take the batteries out of the remote. Press the power button and hold for a few seconds then release.
Then, press every single button on the remote while the batteries are out. Press each button at least once. This helps to clear residual power from the remote.
Put the batteries back in and test the remote again to see if it works.
3. Power Cycle the TV
Alternatively, change the TV powers source, if possible.
4. Clear the way to the TV sensor
The IR sensor of the TV is usually located either on the bottom left or bottom right of the TV. The sensor is very sensitive to anything that might block it, even protective plastic wrap that comes with new TVs.
So move anything that might be in front of the sensor, including books, picture frames etc.
Also, use a cotton swab with a bit of distilled alcohol to clean any impurities on the Tv sensor and also on the IR remote sensor ( the small lightbulb on the remote‘s front edge).
5. Reset Remote to Clear the Memory (for Universal Remotes)
If the problem persists, the problem might be related to the IR sensor. The only solution here is to replace it altogether or to change the sensor.
For the first solution, check Vizio’s offer for remote controls, as they sell various models for all TVs. Also, contact Vizio technical support at 1 (888) 849-4623 for more information.
Another solution signaled by one of our readers is to unplug the TV, hold down the power button on the TV for a couple of seconds and then plug back the TV and turn it on again.
